Quick peek at some exciting semester events
February 21st at 11:30am – 12:30pm – LinkedIn Workshop
o We are planning to do a pre-expo workshop about how to use LinkedIn for career searches in preparation for
the Spring 2019 Business Career Expo.
March 5th at 11:30am – 12:30pm – Resume Workshop
o Dr. Iaquinto, Dr. Vander Weerdt, Dr. Heath, and Jessica Colombi from Career
Services will be reviewing students resumes for 5-10min and students will switch
off to get their resume reviewed by all the professors.
April 4th – HR Panel (time has not been set yet)
o Dr. Heath and Dr. Vander Weerdt will invite their HR connections to allow
students to ask questions about the HR field. If you are able to attend, think a
few questions you’d like to ask.
NOHRC (Northern Ohio Human Resources Conference) – March 21st -22nd
o CSU SHRM will volunteer at this fun event with a great opportunity to network.

SHRM TO HOST RESUME WORKSHOP - JANUARY 31, 2019
The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) at CSU will host a resume workshop on January 31, 2019. All Cleveland State University students are welcome to attend to learn more about the benefits of joining SHRM while receiving tips and tricks to improve their resumes.
This is great preparation for the upcoming 2019 Spring Career and Internship Expo or for students seeking summer internships or full-time employment.

Finalists Announced for Region’s Flagship Internship Awards Program
CLEVELAND – The Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE) and Cleveland Business Connects (CBC) magazine are excited to announce finalists for The Expys, NOCHE’s flagship awards program to honor the best interns, supervisors, and internship programs in Northeast Ohio. NOCHE received hundreds of nominations in seven categories: best intern, best supervisor, best new internship, best small company internship, best large company internship, best college advisor, and coolest internship.
The Expys awards luncheon kicks off at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Windows on the River, and is open to the public. Tickets are $45 ($35 for NOCHE member schools and paid subscribers of CBC Magazine) and may be reserved online at www.noche.org/Register2016. Advance registration is recommended since tickets are expected to sell out prior to the event. “We are excited to continue the tradition of recognizing excellence in experiential learning because of the many high quality programs and the people who make them work,” NOCHE Associate Vice President Brenda Davis Smith said. “Internships and co-ops are becoming more and more important because they link classroom learning and the workplace.”

The independent judges for 2016 are Elizabeth Newman (President/CEO, The Centers for Families and Children), Amy Kocian (Assistant Director, Southwest Community Health Foundation), Ronaye Steele (Deputy Director, Human Resources for Metropolitan Housing Authority), Coryn Simmons (Digital Marketing Manager, Hyatt Legal Plans), Michelle Mooney (Director, National Development Council), and Kim Milne(Project Manager, Global Corporate College). Winners will be revealed live at The Expys luncheon on April 20. “We greatly appreciate the time and expertise that the judges contribute to The Expys,” Davis Smith said.

Resume Workshop
CSU SHRM is hosting our yearly Resume Workshop on Tuesday, October 6th! This is a great opportunity to meet with local HR professionals and get your resume spruced up as well as get tips and advice regarding the job application process.
There will be 2 workshop sessions happening on Tuesday. The first session will be held from 11am to 1pm. The second session will be from 5pm to 7pm. Both of these sessions will take place in BU 220 in the College of Business. There will be food and refreshments as well! So get your resumes ready and we will see you in October!

CSU SHRM Chapter and Advisor Vickie Gallagher awarded CSU Civic Engagement Grants
Cleveland State University’s Office of Civic Engagement has announced the inaugural recipients of its Civic Engagement Grants.
Made possible through a generous gift from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation, these grants will support collaborations between CSU and external partners that mutually benefit community well-being, student learning and academic scholarship. Grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 have been awarded to 20 CSU faculty members representing an array of disciplines and to four CSU student organizations.
$2,500 CSU Faculty Grants:
Vickie Gallagher, Department of Management, Monte Ahuja College of Business
Expand initiative that allows graduate students in organizational change to help businesses, non-profits and other organizations incorporate practices in sustainability, restructuring, mergers and other change opportunities.
$2,500 CSU Student Organization Grants:

Partner with the Veterans Administration Domiciliary to provide resume writing, workshops on networking, mock interviews and other critical job-hunting skills to unemployed veterans.
